Gram Schlegel's Tandy Kake

This is Tyler’s Gram’s recipe to make copy-cat peanut butter chocolate Tasty Kake Tandy Kakes. Tasty Kakes originated in the Philadelphia area and there are various versions of them sold in gas stations like Sheetz and you can now even find them in various grocery stores, Target, etc. This version is Tyler’s favorite. It is essentially a white cake topped with peanut butter and then with melted chocolate.

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 8 ounce chocolate bar, melted

Preheat oven to 350. Beat eggs until thick. Add sugar and beat well. Add milk and vanilla alternately with dry ingredients. Pour batter into a greased 13x15 inch jelly roll pan. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven, and while hot spread with peanut butter and let cool in refrigerator. When cool, spread melted chocolate over peanut butter. Let cool. Cut into squares to eat.
