Masoor Lentils

Serve with Beef Dish, Version 2 , Okra Dish , and Potato Dish .

  • 2/3rds of a 2 lb. bag of whole masoor/lentils
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 onions, cut against the grain in long, thin slices
  • 1 teaspoon small green chili pepper, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger root, diced
  • 1 pinch onion seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

Rinse masoor in water. In large pot, cover masoor with 2” of water and bring to a boil. Add salt. Cover with lid and let cook on med heat until soft (15-20 minutes). Remove lid and reduce heat. In separate frying pan, saute onions, diced chili pepper, garlic and ginger root. Add pinch of onion seeds. Brown. Add to the lentils along with garam masala. Stir until heated through.
