Susan Cortesi was taught to sew at a young age and has greatly enjoyed developing and using this skill throughout her entire life. In addition to making a wide variety of clothing including sundresses, pajamas, ties, shorts, shirts, fleece sweatshirts, prom dresses, and numerous Halloween costumes for her 4 children and 8 nieces and nephews, she has also hand crafted treasured toys and gifts for them, including card table "forts", blankets, an outdoor tent playhouse, a bear house, "name towels" (beach towels personalized with the name of the recipient), and library bags. She has become an avid quilter and enjoys using colorful strips of fabric to create beautiful and intricately detailed quilted wall-hangings, "quillows" (quilts that fold into a pillow when not being used), and bedspreads. Susan (or Susie, as she is called by close family and friends, many of whom have been recipients of her sewing creations) is well known in her community as a skilled seamstress, having donated countless hours of her time sewing hundreds of costumes for musicals and plays put on by local schools, as well as several banners that decorate local churches. Her own home is decorated with samples of her handiwork, both attractive and functional, including handmade placemats, insulated curtains, valances, wreathes, and window seat cushions. She has an artistic eye developed not only through years of sewing and crafting, but also through her recent completion of an Associates Degree in Fine Arts at a local college. Susan currently resides in the suburbs of Albany, NY with her husband and one of their children, and enjoys gardening, cooking, painting, traveling, and photography, in addition to sewing.
